LIFE COACHING

Stay Right Where You Are

Suddenly everything shifts. A job is lost, a relationship breaks down, a crucial business move falls through, or someone close is gone. You feel as though time and normal interaction is suspended, you are in a void.

Stay Right where you areThen, well meaning friends and family members step forth with questions that you cannot answer and advice that you are not ready to absorb. You start to think that you have to fix everything, make it right, and get back to normal. In reality, however you may be in the exact place where you are meant to be. Not the stay in bed, pull the blankets over your head place but the "I need some time, I am not ready to make any decisions yet" place.

After a physical injury you rest, heal, slowly start some carefully chosen physical activity and before you know it you are back on your feet and functioning again. A life changing event or transition injures your mind and emotions. So, are you really ready to jump right in and make the necessary changes to your life? Ready to handle the unknown territory that is now before you? Being a multitasking, busy woman, you have the urge to do just that; to develop a plan and research your options. Instead take care of yourself; rest, heal and grow stonger. If you give yourself some time, you are more likely to find the long term, authentic answers instead of foggy, emotional ones.

When one of my clients suddenly lost her job; everyone assumed that she wouldn't take the vacation that she had already booked. They were wrong; she packed her brightest summer clothes, some trashy beach novels and took the vacation that she had dreamed of. When she got back, she was ready to deal with her life and employment situation. She know that she needed time to let go of what was (which in this case was a job of fifteen years) and time to gather the strength to face a very different future.

So before you spring into 'I have to fix this' mode ask yourself; "Am I really ready or do I need to be where I am for awhile?"
