Staying Plugged In

by Joy Foster

My friend said to me one night when we were just shooting the breeze, "You know something Joy you spend too much time networking." I turned my head and with my expression serious, tilted my head to right and made my attack.

"Yes, I do network a lot. However, may I add that speaking as an entrepreneur, how else is one suppose to find potential clients?". She looked at me and said, "I never thought of that" and we continued our evening.

The point I am trying to make is that we have to always keep a lot of wood in the fireplace burning; adding new ones, turning over the old ones to see if they are going out. I keep the rules of business & life very simple. No need to reinvent the wheel; just listen and learn never assume that you have arrived but keep on going every day.

With all the television, radio talk shows, articles & now my own CD (yeah!), I still have to always stay connected with new resources and platforms to introduce into my business. Without them you become stale and forgotten!

My sweetheart hubby said the other day "Call up this television station that I have appeared on and mention an idea they were discussing on the show." I replied "WHY?" He said "Because, it would be a great story for you plus it is keeping your name in front of them. Remember out of sight out of mind!"

I also recently got caught up in the office stuff which we all do and then I notice my emails were a little low and oh, no one is calling me, hum I wonder why? Maybe I should stoke the fire and place some more logs in there to get things going?

Being connected is powerful, so never underestimate it. I have walked into a room of women doing what they do best "talking up a storm" when someone from across the room recognizes me and walks over with another potential client for me to meet and then to my amazement another log in the fire! Do you see where I am going with this?

Connection is a wonderful thing! Create it, Work it and Make it Happen.

Talking with powerful business women I have seen what networking is like in the arena of winners. So study how successful women network and mingle with them. Now, I am not saying for you not to be yourself no, I am merely stating for you to become successful business woman in the field you have chosen, you must be in the arena and connected to the people that will help you get to where you want to be.

With all said and done ladies, being in business is a lot of work, everything from cold calling to networking then doing it all again. We do whatever it takes to complete the job. It's all part of the process which one day will be completed with our smiling faces on the cover of the latest FORTUNE MAGAZINE - WOW!!!
