When a Coach needs a Coach

by Lynette Allen

Lynette AllenNow you may have noticed a distinct lack of contact in the newsletter department from me the latter part of last year!

Those who know me personally will know that my Dad passed away very suddenly in September and then in October, my dog passed away too and as I'm sure a lot of you will know through your own experience, it's at times like these, that we're forced to take a deep look into our own life and that's exactly what I did.

Well, what else did you really expect from a Life Coach! Even in grief, I couldn't help but coach myself through the mist and I can tell you some days were extremely misty!

I'm often asked 'Does a Life Coach need to be coached?' My answer was always a firm YES and this time was no different, afterall, coaching is all about change.

For most, it's about taking control and choosing to change areas of your life that have become boring, mundane or out of control, but I was being coached for change that had been forced upon me. Coaching couldn't alter my situation of course, or bring anyone back, but it did help me to deal with the change, getting my head, my thoughts and my day to day habits around the situation. I used coaching to regroup, to re-assess my life, my priorities and my passions, afterall, those are the only things we have true control over - everything else, we quickly realise, we have no control over at all.

With the help of the coaching, I realised I needed to take a very large chunk of my own advice and took an almost complete break from anything work orientated, spending some well earned time playing with my 8 month old niece, walking my remaining very elderly dog and seeing more of my family, hence the quiet newsletter front! I know many of you have e-mailed me and missed the newsletter and now I've had my sabbatical (I understand everyone has to have at least one in their life time!) both 'it' and me are back and feeling truly able to look at 2008 with energy and vigour.

If you're involved with my other company Business Uncovered.com, you'll know that I decided to leave the running of it in the very capable hands of directors David Chandler, Dan Doherty and Neil Fullbrook who have massive and exciting plans for it, while I continue coaching, teaching and writing for magazines.

I also have a brand new exciting project of my own to share with you when plans are further underway so watch this space. For now though, Happy New Year to everyone and I hope it's a great one!
